The Rules for Escape…

I think most people are looking for the steps to follow and the rules to keep that will win them all their dreams come true. Regardless of where you look, religion, psychology, economics, politics and hundreds of other constructs, there is a consistent attempt to figure it out, to find the answer and solve the puzzle.
For a long time I, thought if I knew how it all worked, that was the way. I learned how to take apart and reassemble a nuclear power plant. I took numerous mathematic proofs courses in an attempt to understand how ‘it’ all works. Along the way I determined, for me at least, understanding is worthless.

Your difficulty is that you want to understand everything, and that is not possible. If you insist on understanding you’re not considering your entire lot as a human being. – Carlos Castaneda

Humans keep looking for a truth that fits their reality. Given our reality, the truth doesn’t fit. If you experience it, it’s the truth. The same thing believed is a lie. In life, understanding is the booby prize. Obviously this truth is what’s so, not so obviously, it’s also so what. – Werner Erhard

Understanding is only a very small affair, so very small–yet sober understanding is vital. – Carlos Castaneda

Knowing all the intricate details of assembly and construction on how to make the perfect watch does not teach you how to tell time or what to use it for. I want to know what time it is and I no longer have an interest in the why.

What are the rules needed to escape? Escape from where and what you ask?

Life is kind of like living inside a box and depending upon your relationship to the box it could be a huge affair or a tight fit. There are rules for living inside the box we live in. Ask people who surround you in your particular box and they all have a rules list and their interpretation of the boxes rules. Some of them have an opinion about how to get to the next box, the box your box is in, as well. Thinking outside the box is one of the most common ways offered in having it happen.

There are rules for escaping the box. They are listed on the outside of the box you are in, written in a language no one including you inside the box has ever heard or understands. There are boxes that constrain us. If we pay attention and listen closely, escape is possible! From my personal research, those who escape never return. What box are you struggling to get out of?

    Hi Michael,

I enjoyed your article very much. Life is an interesting journey and you’ve present some thought provoking ideas here. Thank you.

  • To go fast, you need to slow down first. To know more, you need to swallow less.

  • Great article! Keep up the great work!

  • Thanks Michael :) I enjoy reading your blog.

  • ICEBURNER ~ Indeed, Great Topic and The Truth is that there is NO escape. We can run but we can’t hide. Here is something I read recently;

“A man travels the world in search of what he needs and returns home to find it.”
    George Moore quotes

  • Great thoughts Mike as always . Enjoy the thought process . Sometimes its good to put on a little Sweet Baby James on get back in perspective. The Secret of Life http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TlAD-b7yew&list=FLnnN0R-PzAcfVC1-SzivHRg&index=16&feature=plpp_video

Always an enjoyable read – my box – me, myself and I. Thanks

  • Always interesting. My dad used to say that you have to wait for your camel to catch up before you move forward. We are always trapped in the now.

True most people try to find out but sometimes they go overboard so i would say this article presents itself rather well. Cheers :)

  • Very interesting post Michael. It’s really ‘food for thought’ material.
Reading your post took me back a few decades ago when I read ‘Siddhartha’ by Hermann Hesse and I’ll leave you with a couple of his quotes related to your article:

“There’s no reality except the one contained within us. That’s why so many people live an unreal life. They take images outside them for reality and never allow the world within them to assert itself.” Hermann Hesse

“What could I say to you that would be of value, except that perhaps you seek too much, that as a result of your seeking you cannot find.” Hermann Hesse

    Thanks for your mission!!

when I was an art student I attempted to “understand” Castenada through peyote and mescaline only to arrive at sober realization that some things are not to be understood but accepted through faith alone.

  • Interesting article. Maybe the answer is that the whole is usually larger than the sum of its parts? I like this exchange between Eustace and Aslan from ‘The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’ by C S Lewis:
” ‘In our world’, said Eustace, ‘a star is a huge ball of flaming gas.’ ‘Even in your world, my son, that is not what a star is, but only what it is made of’”

  • Hi Michael, interesting article.

  • Listen closely, observe your own thoughts and become soul conscious – the body is the box. By becoming soul conscious (practice on a daily base) you become free and life will unfold to you. Understanding is not in the head, it is about becoming.

  • UGH! I feel like I’m stuck in my kids 160 crayola crayon box. Reality messes with my fantasies sometimes and life gets in the way. So what do I do? I have an imaginary conversation with God where He asks me what did I do to deal with His reality. That usually gets me back on track. Or I end up giving myself a swirlie.

    Thanks again for the advise
