Three Paths to Take

On this morning’s walk it occurred to me, I have walked in all three paths of the reasons for existence. The pursuit of happiness; pleasure is the most commented reason. The ‘will to power’ is nearly as popular once you understand it and the search for meaning is the final path.

In my early youth, pleasure motivated me. I was fortunate in many ways and led a charmed life. Overwhelming evidence amounted to my arrest for robbery. My innocence was mute the prosecutor holding my opinion moot. There is an attitude that guilty people are caught sooner or later even if when later they are innocent. The night before they declared me guilty the true thief confessed after robbing a liquor store. I received an apology. I had survived catastrophe and after this narrow escape, I took a different path.

Having escaped unharmed except for maybe a little chip on my shoulder I joined the Navy. The next dozen years I pursued power as the reason to live. I learned a lot in the Navy and by my mid 30′s I was sick with a rare illness. Discharged with my life span identified I changed the meaning of my life again.

My illness magically disappeared and the search for meaning began. I have gone in and out searching for meaning and searching for power, the emphasis being on meaning.

Discovering who you are is not everyone’s plan. If you are interested in some ideas on who you are here is a site with dozens of personality tests.

A test I find interesting is here.

It will take you only a few minutes and give you a clue to your personality.

It is more scientific than learning what your Sun and Moon signs are.

I am an INTJ. What’s yours?
